1 Ñöùc Chuùa Jeâsus vöøa ñi qua, thaáy moät ngöôøi muø töø thuôû sanh ra. 2 Moân ñoà hoûi Ngaøi raèng: Thöa thaày ai ñaơ phaïm toäi, ngöôøi hay laø cha meï ngöôøi, maø ngöôøi sanh ra th́ muø nhö vaäy? 3 Ñöùc Chuùa Jeâsus ñaùp raèng: Ñoù chaúng phaûi taïi ngöôøi hay taïi cha meï ñaơ phaïm toäi; nhöng aáy ñeå cho nhöơng vieäc Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi ñöôïc toû ra trong ngöôøi. 4 Trong khi coøn ban ngaøy, ta phaûi laøm troïn nhöơng vieäc cuûa Ñaáng ñaơ sai ta ñeán; toái laïi, th́ khoâng ai laøm vieäc ñöôïc. 5 Ñöông khi ta coøn ôû theá gian, ta laø söï saùng cuûa theá gian. 6 Noùi xong Ngaøi nhoå xuoáng ñaát, laáy nöôùc mieáng troän thaønh buøn, vaø ñem xöùc treân maét ngöôøi muø. 7 Ñoaïn Ngaøi phaùn cuøng ngöôøi raèng: Haơy ñi, röûa nôi ao Si-loâ-eâ (nghóa laø cḥu sai ñi). Vaäy, ngöôøi ñi ñeán ao ñoù, röûa, vaø trôû laïi, th́ ñöôïc thaáy roơ. 8 Xoùm gieàng ngöôøi muø vaø nhöơng keû tröôùc kia töøng thaáy ngöôøi ñi aên maøy ñeàu noùi raèng: naày coù phaûi laø ngöôøi vaăn ngoài aên xin ñoù chaêng? 9 Ngöôøi th́ noùi: Aáy laø haén; keû laïi noùi: Khoâng phaûi, song moät ngöôøi naøo gioáng haén. Ngöôøi muø noùi raèng: Chính toâi ñaây. 10 Chuùng beøn hoûi ngöôøi raèng: Taïi sao maét ngöôi ñaơ môû ñöôïc? 11 Ngöôøi traû lôøi raèng: Ngöôøi teân goïi laø Jeâsus kia ñaơ hoùa buøn, xöùc maét toâi, vaø noùi toâi raèng: haơy ñi ñeán röûa nôi ao Si-loâ-eâ. Vaäy, toâi ñi ñeán, röûa taïi ñoù, roài thaáy ñöôïc. 12 Chuùng hoûi raèng: Ngöôøi aáy ôû ñaâu. Ngöôøi traû lôøi raèng: Toâi khoâng bieát. 13 Chuùng daăn ngöôøi tröôùc ñaơ muø ñoù ñeán cuøng ngöôøi Pha-ri-si. 14 Vaû, aáy laø ngaøy Sa-baùt maø Ñöùc Chuùa Jeâsus ñaơ hoøa buøn vaø môû maét cho ngöôøi ñoù. 15 Ngöôøi Pha-ri-si laïi hoûi ngöôøi theá naøo ñöôïc saùng maét laïi. Ngöôøi raèng: Ngöôøi aáy raø buøn vaøo maét toâi, toâi röûa roài thaáy ñöôïc. 16 Coù maáy keû trong nhöơng ngöôøi Pha-ri-si beøn noùi raèng: Ngöôøi naày khoâng phaûi töø Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi ñeán ñaâu v́ khoâng giöơ ngaøy Sa-baùt. Nhöng keû khaùc raèng: Moät keû coù toäi laøm pheùp laï nhö vaäy theå naøo ñöôïc? Roài hoï beøn chia phe ra. 17 Baáy giôø chuùng hoûi ngöôøi muø nöơa raèng: Coøn ngöôi, veà ngöôøi ñaơ laøm saùng maét ngöôi ñoù th́ ngöôi noùi laøm sao? Ngöôøi traû lôøi raèng: Aáy laø moät ñaáng tieân tri. 18 Song le, ngöôøi Giu-ña khoâng tin raèng ngöôøi aáy tröôùc ñaơ muø maø ñöôïc saùng laïi, cho ñeán khi goïi cha meï ngöôøi ñeán. 19 Hoï gaïn hoûi raèng: Ñaây coù quaû thaät laø con trai caùc ngöôi maø caùc ngöôi noùi raèng noù muø töø thuôû sanh ra chaêng? Theá th́ sao baây giôø noù saùng vaäy? 20 Cha meï ngöôøi traû lôøi raèng: Chuùng toâi nh́n bieát laø con trai chuùng toâi noù ñaơ muø töø thuôû sanh ra; 21 nhöng hieän nay taïi laøm sao thaáy ñöôïc, th́ chuùng toâi khoâng roơ. Chuùng toâi cuøng khoâng bieát ai môû maét noù nöơa. Haơy hoûi noù, noù ñaơ ñuû tuoåi, chính noù seơ noùi cho. 22 Cha meï ngöôøi noùi vaäy, v́ sôï daân Giu-ña; bôûi daân Giu-ña ñaơ ṇ̃nh raèng heă ai xöng Ñöùc Chuùa Jeâsus laø Ñaáng Christ th́ phaûi ḅ ñuoåi ra khoûi nhaø hoäi. 23 Aáy v́ côù ñoù cho neân cha meï ngöôøi noùi raèng: Noù ñaơ ñuû tuoåi, haơy hoûi noùi. 24 Vaäy, ngöôøi Pha-ri-si goïi ngöôøi tröôùc ñaơ muø moät laàn nöơa, maø noùi raèng: Haơy ngôïi khen Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi, chuùng ta bieát ngöôøi ñoù laø keû coù toäi. 25 Ngöôøi traû lôøi raèng: Toâi chaúng bieát ngöôøi coù phaûi laø keû toäi chaêng, chæ bieát moät ñieàu, laø toâi ñaơ muø maø baây giôø laïi saùng. 26 Hoï laïi hoûi raèng: Ngöôøi ñaơ laøm ñieàu ǵ cho ngöôi? Môû maét ngöôi theá naøo? 27 Ngöôøi traû lôøi raèng: Toâi ñaơ noùi vôùi caùc oâng roài, maø caùc oâng chaúng nghe toâi. Côù sao caùc oâng muoán nghe laïi laàn nöơa? Haù cuơng muoán laøm moân ñoà ngöôøi chaêng? 28 Hoï beøn maéng nhieác ngöôøi, maø raèng: Aáy, chính ngöôi laø moân ñoà ngöôøi; coøn chuùng ta laø moân ñoà cuûa Moâi-se. 29 Chuùng ta bieát Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi ñaơ phaùn cuøng Moâi-se, nhöng ngöôøi naøy th́ chuùng ta chaúng bieát bôûi ñaâu ñeán. 30 Ngöôøi traû lôøi raèng: Ngöôøi ñaơ môû maét toâi, maø caùc oâng chaúng bieát ngöôøi ôû ñaâu ñeán, aáy laø söï laï luøng laém! 31 Chuùng ta vaăn bieát Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi chaúng nhaäm lôøi keû coù toäi, maø neáu ai kính sôï Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi, laøm theo yù muoán Ngaøi, th́ Ngaøi nhaäm lôøi. 32 Ngöôøi ta chaúng bao giôø nghe noùi coù ai môû maét keû muø töø thuôû sanh ra. 33 Neáu ngöôøi naøy chaúng phaûi ñeán töø Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi, th́ khoâng laøm ǵ ñöôïc heát. 34 Chuùng traû lôøi raèng: Caû ḿnh ngöôi sinh ra trong toäi loăi, laïi muoán daïy doă chuùng ta sao! Ñoaïn hoï ñuoåi hoï ra ngoaøi. 35 Ñöùc Chuùa Jeâsus nghe hoï ñaơ ñuoåi hoï ra vaø Ngaøi coù gaëp ngöôøi, beøn phaùn hoûi raèng: Ngöôi coù tin ñeán Con Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi chaêng? 36 Ngöôøi thöa raèng: Thöa Chuùa ngöôøi laø ai haàu cho toâi tin ñeán? 37 Ñöùc Chuùa Jeâsus phaùn raèng: Ngöôi ñaơ thaáy ngöôøi vaø aáy laø ngöôøi ñöông noùi cuøng ngöôi. 38 Ngöôøi thöa raèng: Laïy Chuùa, toâi tin; beøn saáp ḿnh xuoáng tröôùc maët Ngaøi. 39 Ñöùc Chuùa Jeâsus beøn phaùn raèng: Ta ñaơ ñeán theá gian ñaëng laøm söï phaùn xeùt naày: Heă ai chaúng thaáy, th́ thaáy; coøn ai thaáy, laïi hoùa muø. 40 Maáy ngöôøi Pha-ri-si beân caïnh Ngaøi nghe ñieàu ñoù, th́ noùi vôùi Ngaøi raèng: Coøn chuùng ta cuơng laø keû muø chaêng? 41 Ñöùc Chuùa Jeâsus ñaùp raèng: Neáu caùc ngöôi laø keû muø, th́ khoâng coù toäi loăi chi heát; nhöng v́ caùc ngöôi noùi raèng: Chuùng ta thaáy, neân toäi loăi caùc ngöôi vaăn coøn laïi.

John chapter 9 is one of the greatest stories in all of Scripture. The healing of a man blind from birth functions on more than one level. A straightforward reading of the narrative reminds us of Jesus’ ability to cure physical blindness. At a deeper level, the story functions to illustrate the difference between spiritual blindness and spiritual sight.

John 9 is a picture of what happens when Jesus, the Light of the World, goes out into the world. John explains that this light is so bright that some who were blind are able to see, while others are blinded by the light.
